Reflections on 2014

As is good practice for all ambitious organisations, GuideDotYou has taken the opportunity, at the end of the year to set itself goals for ambition and fast growth in 2015 and beyond.

Since running the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce’s Member Offer of the Month for a reduced price Business Reality Check throughout September, our focus has been on developing, marketing and delivering a portfolio of business planning and people development services.

From our birth in summer 2013, as a participant on the New Enterprise Programme, we can now reflect on a period of constant achievement and growth.

Perhaps in the early stages of our business, we offered too broad a range of services. Since then we have listened to what our prospects and customers have said to us and learned from that.  From that we now focus on delivering a smaller number of products and services expertly.

Our “Start Your Project Well” workshop is proving popular with Operational Managers who normally focus on sales targets, but lack the tools and confidence to deliver their new project, such as a site relocation or a refurbishment.  We are currently contracted to a major car dealership as a deliverer for their Leadership Programme.

We are supporting businesses with their Strategic Visioning and Growth Plans and prepare Investor Ready Business Plans for some of them.

For those businesses who need to do better at managing the performance of their staff, we offer our “Attach and Engage Your Staff Early” workshop.  Based on Employee Onboarding theory and best practice, we support management teams to ensure they have the right induction arrangements in place to reduce attrition rates and make sure there is a high performance culture embedded for as soon as new staff arrive.

We have also recently been appointed as Location Leader for 8 Business Networking in Blackpool, building the membership, responding to enquiries and running these monthly events that help to connect some of the best and most ambitious businesses in Blackpool and surrounding areas

We are excited for next year as that promises to be a year of high growth.  We have set ourselves achievable yet stretching targets for growth, including the rollout of new simplified services for start-up businesses.  You will hear more about this new service soon,  yet in simple terms, new business owners will be able to get many of the support services they need early in their pre-start and start-up phase from a single source, that source being GuideDotYou.

We expect to create a new Community Interest Company for those dedicated services very soon and welcome conversations from potential associates and funding partners interested in helping to support vulnerable people with great business ideas.  We start by offering our potential start up clients the thought of business ownership being a realistic career option, before nurturing their business skills and knowledge and providing them with the continued support needed to help them be successful.

My feeling, from my many discussion with other businesses is that it has been a year of challenge and slow growth, yet with signs of promise that business will improve faster during the forthcoming period.  There appears to be more than a sense of optimism for many businesses that profitability can improve.  I hope that will be for your business.  You know how to find us if you require any additional support with your growth journey.

Finally, I would like to thank you for reading this blog, and hope you continue to find these resources of interest.  I wish you and your families and friends a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
